Buch hogging yesterday a warning light came on, turned tractor off. Looked for a long time and found the symbol, it said exhaust was overheated. I turned the tractor back on later and the light was out, what do I do?
On a John Deere 5055E, this warning is typically related to high exhaust system temperature. Depending on the emissions equipment fitted to your model and market, it can occur during or around a regeneration event, or if exhaust temperatures become unusually high.
Things to check first:
1) Look around the exhaust system for grass, leaves, or other debris that may have accumulated while bush hogging. Dry vegetation can trap heat and, in extreme cases, become a fire hazard.
2) Clean the radiator, grille, and any coolers if they’re packed with chaff or seeds. Restricted airflow can increase engine and exhaust temperatures.
3) Check engine coolant level once the engine has cooled.
Stop using it and investigate further if:
– The exhaust overheat warning returns repeatedly.
– The engine begins to derate (lose power).
– You notice excessive black smoke, unusual exhaust smell, or signs of overheating.
– Multiple warning lights appear.
