The Caterpillar 797F is one of the flagship ultra-class trucks in Caterpillar’s mining fleet — a true powerhouse designed for high-volume haul operations. It’s driven by the massive Cat C175-20 engine, delivering up to 4000 hp (2983 kW), which gives it the muscle to carry its enormous payload back and forth in the pit. At its heart, this truck is all about efficiency: moving huge loads fast, while minimizing cost per ton. One of the modern touches on the 797F is its engine emissions flexibility. In Tier 4 Final variants, the truck even includes a Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) system — a trade-off for much lower NOx and particulate emissions.
On the weight and capacity side, the 797F is no lightweight. Its gross operating weight sits around 623,690 kg (1,375,000 lb), and it can haul 400 US tons (363 tonnes) of material per load. Its body’s heaped volume (SAE 2:1) can reach about 330 cubic yards (≈ 252 m3) depending on the configuration — so it’s built for serious production cycles.
