Weapons Incident
A weapon is any item used to injure or kill someone. Weapons range from rocks, spears, knives and guns to chemical, biological, nuclear and radiological weapons.
Minnesota state law requires a 7-day waiting period after the purchase of handguns and assault weapons by federally licensed dealers in order to run a background check on the buyer. In Minnesota, a permit is required to carry a concealed weapon.
Be prepared for a weapons incident. The type of weapon used (for example, chemical, biological or nuclear) will determine if you should stay or go.
- Go to Get Prepared and create a family communication plan that includes both a Stay Plan and a Go Plan and build a 3-day emergency kit to be ready for a weapons incident.
- Print the Weapons Incident Checklist (PDF) and discuss this information with your family.
