Transportation Incident
Minnesotans are on the move, via plane, train, bus, truck, automobile, motorcycle, boat and bicycle, and transportation accidents happen. Motor vehicle accidents are the most common, and in 2005 the state recorded 500 fatalities, 26,618 injuries and $1.6 billion in losses. Accidents involving trains are less likely, and in Minnesota most train accidents involved loss of products and environmental damage rather than risk to people.
Airplane accidents are rare, but those involving major passenger jets are among the most deadly of disasters. And since the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Towers and the terrorist bombings on passenger trains in Madrid and buses in London, transportation safety has become an international concern.
